Everyone is invited to celebrate Black History Month! Check out the variety of lively and educational events throughout the month of February.

History

The event grew out of “Negro History Week”, created in February 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. Since 1976, every U.S. president officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom, devote a month to celebrating Black history.
