The Osher Foundation made a historic pledge to the California Community Colleges, giving an unprecedented lead gift of $25 million to establish the endowment and committing additional match dollars for amounts raised by the system.
In May 2008, the Bernard Osher Foundation made a historic gift of $25 million to the California Community Colleges system to provide endowed scholarships for community college students throughout the state.
In addition, the Osher Foundation pledged to match all Osher contributions raised through June 30, 2011. El Camino College was challenged to raise $1 million as a participant in the largest community college scholarship program of its time.
The El Camino College Foundation exceeded their goal and raised $1.6 million, which was matched for a total of $2.2 million. This endowment provides an additional $122,000 annually to the current scholarship program, significantly increasing the number of students who receive scholarships each year.
The Foundation would like to thank the hundreds of individuals who contributed to this endowment, including El Camino College's faculty, staff and administrators. Special thanks to Richard and Melanie Lundquist whose efforts significantly helped ensure the success of the Foundation's scholarship program.
